I enjoy helping people get technology under control and out of the way so they can focus on solving problems, getting work done and having fun.
I received my BS degree in Education (K-12, ESL) in 1988 and completed Client/Server Programming training at Bellevue Community College in 2000. Currently, I'm fortunate to put both areas of experience to use every day as the Director of First Step Technology Center
at the Martin Luther King Jr. Apartments in Seattle, one of the nation's
very first "community technology centers" to provide computer access for low income housing
residents and the surrounding
community. A typical day at "the lab" might include: Planning and purchasing supplies, helping a newly arrived Somali immigrant learn to type and use a computer, troubleshooting a slow network, helping kids of all ages find fun and appropriate games on the Internet, providing assistance with a resume or a MySpace layout, calling on potential community partners who might be interested in collaboration, maintaining workstations and helping a six year-old learn to use a mouse.
My
expertise includes website design, content management technology
and processes, technology planning and management, Flash
presentations, graphics and demos. I have hands-on experience with LAN network
administration and all aspects of Windows 2003 Small Business Server including Active Directory, Group Policy Objects, users and security.
